Being a master now is as simple as slapping it on a FetLife or Insta bio at 2 am. This title used to be given by others, never just stuck on a profile. It was bestowed by those who submitted or as recognition for one’s dedication, work, and earned through skill, experience, and time, never a click.
Now, many just insert the title into their bio as a way to market themselves with no skills learned, no time invested, but make sure to address them as “master”. Others use it to manipulate eager, new submissives who do not know better. It is a Halloween mask to hide a lack of knowledge and experience, designed to impress others because the title still has intense meaning.
The old days are gone, thankfully, and anyone can call themselves whatever they want (which is great), but when someone leads with master online, ask yourself, is this marketing or merit? Are they a master based on their skill and devotion, or just skilled at one-handed typing?
The title master is widely self-applied online, making earned mastery harder to spot, but it is still a powerful, meaningful honorific; just be on guard for the impostors.
